    Website.

A collection of related web pages and files grouped under a single domain name, accessible to anyone on the internet.

    In plain English

A website is a collection of interlinked web pages written in HTML and other web languages, all grouped under a single domain name and accessible via the internet. When you type an address into your browser and a page loads, everything you are looking at and navigating through is a website. Each page within that collection serves a different purpose. A homepage introduces the business. A services page explains what is on offer. A contact page tells visitors how to reach you. A blog publishes articles. All of these pages live under one domain name and together form a single website. The pages themselves are files stored on a web server. When someone visits your web address, their browser sends a request to that server, retrieves the relevant files, and renders them visually on the screen. That process happens in seconds. A website is a digital platform accessible via the internet, which means anyone with a browser and a connection can reach it regardless of where they are in the world or what time it is. That global, around-the-clock availability is one of the core reasons a business website is different from any other marketing tool you can own. A website is not the same as a social media profile, a WhatsApp Business account, or a Google Business listing. Those platforms are rented. A website is yours. You own the domain, you own the content, and no algorithm change or platform policy can take it down or bury it overnight.

Why it matters for founders and Nigerian businesses

For a business, a website is the one digital asset you fully control. Social media accounts get suspended. Algorithms reduce your reach overnight. Marketplaces change their terms. But a well-built website on a domain you own stays working for you on your terms. It is also the place where most buying decisions happen. A potential client who finds you on Instagram, gets a referral from someone, or sees your ad will almost always visit your website before they contact you. What they find there determines whether they reach out or move on.
