FOUNDER RESOURCE HUB

How Nigerian small businesses should plan a website.

A useful business website is not a collection of fashionable sections. It should help the right visitor understand the offer, believe the business, find the evidence they need, and take a clear next step. This guide explains how to plan that system before visual design begins.

Define the business job first

Choose the primary outcome the website must support: qualified enquiries, bookings, applications, purchases, calls, or a stronger procurement impression. A page cannot prioritise everything equally. The main outcome determines the information hierarchy, evidence, calls to action, measurement plan, and which pages deserve the most attention.

Make the offer easy to repeat

A visitor should quickly understand who the business helps, what it provides, where it operates, and why it is a credible choice. Replace broad slogans with specific services, audiences, problems, and outcomes. Clear positioning improves conversion and gives search systems a more reliable explanation of the page.

Plan pages around real questions

The homepage should orient visitors, while service pages answer detailed buying questions. About, work, pricing, contact, and policy pages remove different kinds of doubt. Start with the questions customers already ask on calls or WhatsApp, then assign each question to the page where it can be answered most naturally.

Put proof beside the claim

Use named project studies, real people, locations, credentials, process details, testimonials, useful policies, and concrete deliverables. Proof is strongest when it sits near the statement it supports. A separate testimonial carousel cannot rescue a service page whose important claims remain vague.

Design for the Nigerian browsing context

Prioritise mobile layouts, compressed media, readable typography, resilient forms, clear phone and WhatsApp options, and payment or delivery explanations where relevant. Test on ordinary mobile connections and devices. A design that only feels fast on a designer’s laptop is not ready for the market.

Protect ownership and measurement

Confirm who owns the domain, hosting, analytics, source code, design files, business profiles, and third-party accounts. Define enquiry events before launch and make sure the business can update essential information. A website should become an owned business asset, not a dependency that is difficult to measure or maintain.
